Marketplace apps or your own online ordering?

Most restaurants do not have to choose one or the other. But it helps to know what changes when an order comes through your own website.

Why many restaurants use both

Marketplace apps are good at discovery: putting your restaurant in front of people who have not heard of you. Your own ordering is good at loyalty: giving the people who already know you a direct way to order.

A common approach is to keep a marketplace for new customers, and to point regulars (through receipts, signs, your website and social media) to ordering on your own site.

What to check before you add your own ordering

  • Does it use the menu from your point of sale, so prices stay in step?
  • Do orders arrive in your kitchen the way other orders do?
  • Which payment and pickup options suit your restaurant?
  • Who designs and maintains the ordering site?
